In January, First District RESA offered an opportunity for schools and districts to apply for a $2,000 Mental Health Awareness mini-grant. It was established to assist schools in creating and implementing wellness spaces for students and staff that would support coping skills, lifelong self-development, and the mental health and wellbeing of their entire school communities.
Out of nine districts and 32 submissions, we are excited to announce that Goodyear Elementary has been selected to receive this grant to fund its proposed wellness space. At the March Board Meeting, Mr. Richard Smith with First District RESA presented Principal Dr. Oatanisha Dawson and Mrs. Melanie Cannon, school counselor and author of the awarded grant, with a check for $2,000.
