Teacher of the Year
Goodyear's 2023 Teacher of the Year: Lorna Hurley
I’ve been teaching at Goodyear Elementary for 17 years. I’ve taught kindergarten, 1st grade, and currently EIP. Growing up, I wanted to be a police helicopter pilot. However, I learned that I was afraid of heights, so I needed to find another dream. I have two sisters that are a lot younger than me, so I was able to volunteer in their classes…..and I LOVED IT!!! That’s when I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I earned a Bachelor’s degree from San DIego State University and a Master’s degree from Troy University. Each morning, I wake up with peace and purpose knowing that I get to come spend my day teaching and loving the students and staff at Goodyear.
When not at school, I enjoy spending time with my sweet husband, Jeremy Hurley. I like to bake and I’m learning how to quilt. Sports are my favorite to watch on tv. I live on a farm, but only have 13 chickens at this time. One day I would love to get a horse, some goats, and a llama.
